2/52 The Job Search

Ok, week two and I already missed, a blog, but in my defense, last week was crazy.... but this week really won't be much better. So, I will try to get two blogs done this week to catch up. For this weeks blog, I am going to catch everyone up on whats going on in our life right now; Then i will get back to the catch up game.

Tyler has worked at the uranium mill here in Blanding for the last 5 1/2 years, but they are basically shutting down, so their will be a massive layoff sometime within the next six months, but we don't know when exactly. We have begun to look for other options and we have found other dead end jobs, schooling options, and other possibilities, all of which include moving away from Blanding, which is my home town, and the town which Ty has grown to love. We have lived in this house almost our entire marriage. We moved in 4 months after we got married. Both of our children have been raised in this house, and it has most definitely become home. Not to mention, the last 2 1/2 years have been spent in turning this house into our dream home (I will get into that later.) So, needless to say, it would be extremely difficult for us to leave here, and that is absolutely the last option that we want to pursue.

So, last friday we had a new experience in our marriage.... a job interview. Yes, in our five years together, neither of us have ever had a job interview. The company we applied for is Schlumberger, and the job is located in North Dakota in the oil fields. Ya, I know what everyone is thinking, and yes we have thought this through. No, we won't be moving. If he get's the job (which he was basically guaranteed) he will be traveling back and forth between here and Williston, ND at the companies expense. The salary and benefits are amazing! It will be a huge sacrifice, but if we budget our money well, and depending on the amount of overtime he gets (he was told his days would range from 10-16 hours) we will be completely debt free in 1 1/2- 3 years. And yes, that includes the house. They told him his schedule would either be 15 on 6 off, or 21 on 9 off. (We are really hoping for 15 and 6).

It will be a huge sacrifice for Tyler to be gone so much, but it will be amazing to have that kind of financial security, and it will make it to where we can enjoy our lives more down the road without the burden of debt. That will be an amazing blessing. So, at this point we are just really hoping and praying that he gets this job. We have another interview for the position on friday, and we will know by friday afternoon whether he got the job or not. So, just of few more day's of unknown.
